Passepartout clippings: The game of shapes
Perhaps the best-known variant of the passe-partout is the one with a single detail, in which a work is specifically staged. Especially in the field of photography, but also in graphics or other multi-part works, it can be effective to select a passe-partout with two or more sections.
For Passepartout with simple cut-out we offer you some formats - rectangular, oval and square cut-outs - already prefabricated, which we always have in stock for you. Of course they are available in different colours and qualities and can be ordered.
Also Passepartouts with multiple cut-out - rectangular, oval, square - are available as series passepartouts with different cut-out sizes, colours and cardboard qualities.
Individually designed passe-partouts for special works
Since a series-produced solution is not always the right one, we can of course also supply you with individually produced passe-partouts with single cut-outs, which you can order either in a small edition or as a large edition. If the usual representation of the cut-out as square, rectangle or oval is not suitable for your purposes, polygons (polygons) and other shapes can also be produced for you.
The same applies to multiple cut-outs: Depending on whether you want two cutouts symmetrically above or next to each other, four cutouts of the same size symmetrically or perhaps a larger number of different cutouts, we can produce your passe-partout especially for you.
If you are interested in passe-partouts that have several cutouts, you should consider the arrangement of the cutouts beforehand: If the cut-outs are of the same size and perhaps identical in shape, they can be arranged symmetrically. However, if you want to place many different shapes and sizes in the passe-partout, you should try to find a common line around the outside of the cutouts; this will calm the arrangement and create structure.
If you design your passe-partout yourself, please keep in mind that later about 1 cm of the outer edge will be covered by the frame fold and thus disappear visually. This is especially important in connection with the width of the passe-partout between the individual cut-outs, which should not be larger at the end than the edge running around the image cut-outs on the outside.
The optical center
The so-called optical centre is achieved by setting the cutout of the passe-partout slightly higher than the actual centre. The reason for this is that sections of a passe-partout tend to fall downwards for the observer. High-quality mounts, such as those used in museums and galleries, therefore set the cut-out slightly higher and the exhibit in the optical centre. What applies to the single-cut passe-partout can, of course, also be applied to the multiple-cut passe-partout: In the case of multiple-cut passe-partout passe-partout, simply view the entirety of the cutouts as one cutout and place it in the optical centre.
If you would like to order individually made passe-partouts from us, the optical centre will be pre-set by us. Of course you can select changes, such as a centered cut-out.
